Last Night Was Yuuuuge In Music
As you may know, I'm a massive music guy. I check updated hip-hop sites religiously (20x a day probably) and also keep my eye on EDM. Every Thursday night is like Christmas to me, when Apple Music is flooded with new releases, usually from 10-12am. Each week there is usually 30-40 new songs, with a few hits and the others just something new for your ears. Well last night was a little different and I've been looking forward to it for awhile now.
Calvin Harris: Back in February, Calvin Tweeted that he was mixing his album after releasing it's first single "Slide" featuring Frank Ocean & Migos. This song took the internet by storm and has been at the top of the charts ever since. "I might" may be on of the annoying yet addicting lyric from a song in recent memory. The album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, was officially announced in April and released last night with 10 extremely chill/feel good tracks. Calvin wasn't kidding when he worked with *some* of the greatest artists of this generation, which are listed in the photo below. This is the best of both worlds for me, a bunch of popular rappers spitting over Calvin Harris tropical instrumentals. ABSOLUTELY MUST LISTEN.
Jay Z: The 47-year-old rapper-businessman is somehow still relevant and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited for this album to drop. I'm not the biggest Jay Z fan but he's a legend and on I'd assume he's on most people's Top 10 list for GOAT rappers. This pretty much came out of nowhere, I honestly thought he was *album* retired, but I guess I was wrong. The 10 song album titled 4:44 dropped on fucking Tidal last night and features Frank Ocean, Damian Marley and Gloria Carter. The only thing worse than Spotify is Tidal. You never hear someone say "I don't have Apple Music, I use Tidal." I don't know how Apple hasn't just bought out Jay Z by now (he started Tidal if you live under a rock). So obviously I illegally downloaded it this morning and I'm on track 7 right now actually. I've been more focused on writing this blog but all the beats are smooth af with plenty of samples (Ye and Hov always have you head bobbin'). I guess on the title-track "4:44" Jay apologizes to Queen Bee for cheating, after Beyonce cried about it on her Lemonade album. Jay raps "And if my children knew / I don't even know what I would do / If they ain't look at me the same / I would probably die with all the shame." If you're able, this is worth the illegal download. Jay's flow is unlike anyone else, especially in 2017 when JAY Z and Ski Mask the Slump God (lmao) are in the same hot new music blog.
Tyler, The Creator: Yes, you read that right. I thought he retired too. A week ago, Tyler took to social media to hype up that something was dropping in "7 days boy!" He posted a picture of a bee each day with a countdown to what happened to be the video for "Who Dat Boy" featuring A$AP Rocky along with the single "9/11" featuring Frank Ocean (both on iTunes). This is Tyler's first drop since his 2015 album, Cherry Bomb, which in my opinion was a disaster of an project compared to Bastard, Goblin and Wolf. These songs are absolute fire so hopefully Tyler can focus on a new album along with his new TV show, clothing line, and record label. Listen to this, you won't be disappointed. FYI, if you're ever going to see Tyler live, see him in a small in-doors venue. He's still good at festivals but his concerts are absolutely INSANE in a small club. You'll probably get punched in the face 4-5x and be drenched from sweat.
Ski Mask the Slump God: Most of you (if anyone actually reads my music posts) probably don't even know who this guy is. I didn't either until XXXtentacion dropped "Look at Me!" and I did more research on him and Ski Mask was part of his team. He dropped his debut album You Will Regret last night and he is a billion times better than that XXX punk. That's why I'm including this, to give the kid some sort of praise because his buddy triple X steals all the spotlight for fighting and being a complete rebel. This is total gym music and that's about it, below average lyrics with super hype trap-rap beats. Listen if you want.
Remixes: I won't go into much detail about these remixes, but there was quite a few awesome popular songs remixed last night by EDM artists.
Robin Schulz- "OK" ft. James Blunt (Sylvain Armand Remix)
Halsey- "Now or Never" (R3hab Remix)
Nick Jonas- "Remember I Told You" ft. Anne-Marie & Mike Posner (Alan Walker Remix)
Kygo- "First Time" ft. Ellie Goulding (Griffin Remix)
Tinashe- "Flame" (Steve James Remix)
Ed Sheeran- "Castle on the Hill" (Throttle Remix)
Bruno Mars- "Versace on the Floor" (David Guetta Remix)
Katy Perry- "Swish Swish" ft. Nicki Minaj (Valentino Khan Remix)
Miley Cyrus- "Malibu" (Dillon Francis Remix)
New Songs: Random singles came out also, from the likes of Cyhi The Pyrnce, Future, Rick Ross, Lil Durk, Waka Flocka Flame, Towkio, Amine, Rudimental, DVBBS, and more.
So there you have it, last night was a Yuuuuge night in music. I'd defiantly check the BDS Twitter for all these songs (minus Jay Z) in my weekly D's Donuts playlist to pick which you want to add to your 4th of July darty playlist.
